In layman’s words; Biodiesel refers to a non-petroleum-based diesel fuel consisting of short chain alkyl (methyl or ethyl) esters, made by transesterification of vegetable oil or animal fat, which can be used in unmodified diesel-engine vehicles.

One can divide the production of biodiesel into three simple and basic steps -

Ilseed Crushing (Basic Process)

Crude Oil Degumming/Neutralizing (Basic Process)

Crude oil obtained from the canola seed pressing operation contains a number of impurities that have to be removed before the transesterification (biodiesel) process. The impurities are moisture, gums, free fatty-acids and soaps.
